Information

Broccoli originates from Asia Minor but this member of the mustard family (Brassicaceae) meanwhile grows all over the world. Whether Europe, Asia, or the USA, broccoli is a popular vegetable in all countries. In Germany broccoli was mentioned in a number of recipes dating as far back as the Middle Ages, after which it was all but forgotten before a resurgence in popularity again in the 1970s.

This green vegetable not only looks good in dishes, it is also very healthy. It is even said to have cancer-inhibiting and immune-boosting properties. The Romans believed it could be used to combat hangovers, but whether this is true has never been proven. But one thing that is proven: broccoli contains “sulforaphane” which can reduce skin reddening caused by UV rays by 38%. So, after sunbathing a portion of broccoli wouldn’t go amiss.
