Pumpkins are one of the largest berries in the world, originating from Mexico and in the south of the USA. The oldest fossilised pumpkin seeds have been found in Mexico, which means we now know that the pumpkin has existed since 8000BC.
It has therefore been part of the diet in Central and South America for thousands of years, but in Europe people are also increasingly attracted to its nutty taste. Halloween celebrations also add to its popularity. And one last piece of information about the size of pumpkins: anything between the size of a coin and a tractor tyre is possible.
